دوشنبه صبح، بنا به درخواست نخست‌وزیر و در حضور وزیر دادگستری، نخست‌وزیر و من در کاخ شاندور دیدار کردیم. گفت‌وگوهای ما تأیید کرد که دولت نقش قانون‌اساسی دفتر ریاست‌جمهوری مجارستان را به‌گونه‌ای ارزیابی و تفسیر می‌کند که با قانون اساسی در تضاد است و بر پایه انتظارات سیاسی یک‌جانبه شکل گرفته است. بار دیگر صریحاً اعلام کردم که این موضوع هیچ مبنای قانون‌اساسی برای استعفای من فراهم نمی‌کند و من که به سوگند خود برای رعایت و پاسداری از قانون اساسی وفادارم، در موقعیتی نیستم که به خواسته استعفا تن دهم. بر اساس اظهارات نخست‌وزیر در حضور وزیر دادگستری، دولت قصد دارد از طریق قانون‌گذاری شخص‌محور، قانون اساسی را اصلاح کند تا مرا از مقامی که به‌طور قانونی در اختیار دارم برکنار کند. این اقدام مصداق حمایت سیاسی است و اصول قانون‌اساسی را به مخاطره می‌اندازد. بحران قانون‌اساسی ناشی از این اقدام، شکاف‌های اجتماعی را عمیق‌تر خواهد کرد و به اعتبار بین‌المللی دموکراسی مجارستان آسیب خواهد زد و به‌طور بالقوه بر دسترسی مجارستان به بودجه اتحادیه اروپا که مشروط به رعایت الزامات حاکمیت قانون است، تأثیر خواهد گذاشت.

On Monday morning, at the Prime Minister’s request, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, the Prime Minister and I met at Sándor Palace. Our discussions confirmed that the Government assesses and interprets the constitutional role of the office of the President of Hungary in a manner that deviates from the Fundamental Law, on the basis of unilateral political expectations. Once again, I stated unequivocally that this provides no constitutional basis for my resignation, and that, faithful to my oath to comply with and uphold the Fundamental Law, I am not in a position to accede to the demand that I resign. According to the statement made by the Prime Minister in the presence of the Minister of Justice, the Government intends to amend the Fundamental Law through person-specific legislation, with the aim of removing me from an office that I lawfully hold. This constitutes political patronage, thereby compromising constitutional principles. The constitutional crisis arising from this course of action would deepen divisions within society and damage the international reputation of Hungarian democracy, potentially affecting, among other things, Hungary’s access to EU funds conditional upon compliance with rule-of-law requirements.
