I have just concluded a constructive meeting with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe must be strong, effective and capable of delivering concrete results in protecting democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Slovakia does not want to be a bystander in these discussions. We want to be an active partner in reforming the Council of Europe and promoting solutions that will make it more effective and better equipped to respond to new challenges. I made it clear to Alain Berset: Slovakia has experience, its own perspective and concrete proposals — and we want to turn them into results. A stronger Council of Europe means stronger protection of the values on which Europe stands. Slovakia wants to be part of that change.
