Today, the “Parliamentary Dialogue” continued in Ternopil at the West Ukrainian National University. One of the key themes of the discussion was what private law should look like for the generation that will live and work in a post-war, modern, European Ukraine. Representatives of Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University, and Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University also joined the discussion. This broad range of participants helped shape a wide-ranging conversation. We discussed what protections and guarantees the new Civil Code should provide to young people, the right to informational peace, and how the law should respond to the challenges of the digital environment. We also focused separately on the medical dimension of the new Code and issues related to the reproductive sphere. A significant part of the discussion was devoted to artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and the protection of the results of creative and innovative activity. We also had a substantive discussion about the rights of service members — both during the war and after it ends — as well as the balance between individual private rights and national security interests. Another important dimension was the European one. We discussed how EU legal approaches should be integrated into the new architecture of the Civil Code, the rules for acquiring and protecting rights, intellectual property, and ways to more effectively protect the rights of Ukrainian producers in foreign markets. During my conversation with local media, I answered questions about the work on the new Civil Code and the participation of the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Arusha. The presence of the Ukrainian Parliament at key international platforms is critically important today. Especially now, when budget decisions are being shaped not only in Ukraine, but also in the parliaments of our partners. It is there that resources are being allocated for Ukraine’s military, financial and humanitarian support, as well as for reconstruction. That is why parliamentary diplomacy is not only about political dialogue. It is also constant work to ensure that Ukraine’s needs remain among the priorities of our partners. Thank you, Ternopil, for a very substantive discussion.
